Paul Jourcin ’69, G’73 came to Assumption University from New York and had a transformational experience on our campus. To express his gratitude for the experience, education and opportunities he received at Assumption, he created an estate gift to support his beloved alma mater when he passed.

Paul came to Assumption to be a French major and loved his professors, especially Dr. Maurice Plasse. They became lifelong friends, and Maurice was his greatest mentor in preparing him to teach French for over 40 years at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, MA.

Paul would often share his fond memories of life at Assumption, especially participating in theatre—French plays or campus ministry activities and participating in the planning of the graduation Mass at the new Chapel of the Holy Spirit.

In 2017 Paul spoke at the University’s Endowed Scholarship brunch with our student recipients and donors. In his speech he shared the following quote from Fr. Emmanuel D’Alzon claiming real education “focuses on the formation of who we are, who we want to become and how we want to live out that vision on a daily basis.” Paul accomplished this through his teaching and involvement with students.

Unfortunately for all of us, he left us too soon. Paul passed away in the fall of 2020. Paul’s estate gift to Assumption University is helping countless students fulfill their dream of becoming teachers in the tradition of Fr. D’Alzon.
