After my mother, Assumption University had the greatest influence on my life. I wanted to be an engineer, but when it was time to pick a college in 1971, engineering jobs were scarce as the Apollo space program was ending and the Vietnam War diverted funds away from research and development.

I decided to major in mathematics since it is the foundation for so many other disciplines. I landed at Assumption, primarily because of a generous financial aid package and the desire to be at a small college with an exceptional math faculty.

Assumption was a perfect fit for me. I placed well in mathematics competitions and was accepted at The Ohio State University (OSU), where I received MS degrees in applied mathematics and the emerging field of systems engineering. My adviser at OSU was impressed with the breadth and depth of my Assumption education.

My engineering career spanned 30 years, which concluded in leading a team of engineers from NATO nations in developing capabilities to share intelligence in Afghanistan after 9/11.

My wife and I are very pleased to be in a position to pay it forward and help future Assumption students reap the same benefits as I did. I encourage fellow alumni to make a bequest to Assumption as one of your last acts of kindness!
